The Frink Gallery
Our project aimed to embrace the working methods of Elisabeth Frink and the primeval nature of her sculpture. The design grew from the remains of Millbank Penitentiary, which generated a subterranean journey emerging into the social hub and sculptural landscape, which created a dialogue with Chelsea School of Art. Along the route of the gallery we developed a range of spaces and atmospheres where the work of the artist could be displayed. The public and private entities emerge from the historical remains as a piece of sculpture. A perforated, architectural bronze skin wraps this armature. The scintilic facade works on a practical and conceptual level as it animates the gallery with constantly changing lighting conditions.
